2023 APDU Does Data Storytelling

Amid a modern-day data deluge, the ability to distill information into insight and tell a compelling, cohesive, and accurate story has rapidly become an essential skill for researchers and other data professionals. Data storytelling is in demand and APDU has you covered with upcoming webinars and workshops.

Before our data storytelling workshop in November, gather some inspiration from APDU’s 2023 Data Storytelling Award Winner: Professors Sara Queen and Tania Allen from NC State University will share their presentation, Challenging Neutrality: A Closer Look at Confederate Memorialization in the U.S., a powerful data-based, visual demonstration of how the construction of confederate memorials coincided with Jim Crow segregation and reactionary protests to the Civil Rights Movement.

The webinar will be on September 26th at 3pm. Click below to register.

Interested in learning how to be a more effective data storyteller? Check out our upcoming 1.5 day workshop with Jeff Allen, an urban data scientist and Data Visualization Lead at the University of Toronto School of Cities. The workshop will cover the building blocks of good data storytelling across a variety of mediums (charts, maps, interactives, animations, text, etc.) and will provide opportunities for group discussion, hands-on tutorials, and more.

The workshop will be held November 13th – 14th at CREC’s offices in Arlington, VA. Click below for more information and to register.
