The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics of the National Science Foundation is a principal Federal source of statistics about the science and engineering enterprise and serves as the central Federal clearinghouse for the collection, interpretation, analysis, and dissemination of objective data on science, engineering, technology, and research and development. NCSES is called on to support the collection of statistical data on research and development trends, the science and engineering workforce, U.S. competitiveness, and the condition and progress of the Nation’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
