APDU Board Member: APDU Hosts Scholarship Students at Conference

|

By: Bernie Langer, APDU Board and Conference Committee Member

This year APDU was bestowed with a grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to support the travel and conference registration fees for a cohort of promising students interested in public data. These students had the opportunity to meet with board members, engage with conference attendees and speakers, and share their work in our poster session.

We were pleased to see reports of positive experiences from the students, such as the one below. APDU is excited to continue our support of the next generation in the future – if you are or know students and young professionals concerned with pubic data, stay connected!

D’Laino Hanson:

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity of being apart of the Annual Public Data Users (APDU) conference as a scholarship recipient, representing the illustrious Bowie State University and its BSU College of Business.

Following the theme of this conference, “The Future: Communities, Data, and Work”, I was able to attend several panel sessions and workshops where I was awarded with a lot of insightful information , as well as networking opportunities with many professionals within this sector.

Thanks to my professor Andrea Calloway for introducing me to this opportunity alongside with other students at Bowie State University. Another special thanks to Tia Williams NelsonCREC, APDU, and to all of the other organizers for this opportunity and being able to be apart of this organization as a member moving forward. I’m truly looking forward to our continued achievements within the public data space and all the impacts and innovations we have scheduled moving forward.
