APDU is a national network of public data producers, disseminators, and users. The organization provides a mechanism to share news and concerns and advocate on behalf of public data users. While the annual conference and parts of this web site are open to the public, members have access to additional publications, restricted areas of the web and discounts on products.

  • Each fall, APDU hosts a conference in the Washington D.C. area. The conference focuses on statistical policy; data collection, production, and delivery; emerging issues; and relevant technologies. It provides an opportunity to interact with principal policy and decision makers in the data world.
  • The APDU Newsletter provides updates on developments in federal and other statistical sources, and is published several times a year. The newsletter is e-mailed to all APDU members, and back copies are accessible in the Members Area of this website.
  • ADPU provides advocacy on issues and events that affect public data. APDU's Board of Directors corresponds with administrators and officials directly involved with these matters representing the concerns of data users. APDU also has representation on the Decennial Census Advisory Committee and COPAFS.
  • Involvement in special projects and other activities by APDU continues to provide a voice for public data users in many areas. Recent activities include an advisory or informational role in the 2000 Decennial Census planning, redefinition of racial and ethnic categories, planning the American Community Survey (ACS), and revision of the industrial coding scheme.
  • A membership directory is made available to members.
